Sales presentations should be built with one thing in mind: to engage emotions. To make your audience care.
It’s hard to forget about things we care about, and that’s what you want your audience to feel.
A deep connection with you.
A connection with your brand.
A bond with your vision for them.
What distinguishes good companies from great is an ability to tell a compelling story. It’s a crucial moment in the sales cycle. You’re about to call your client out on the big problem they need to solve whilst offering up a reason for them to bet on a better future - a future with you.
Discover how to create an evocative sales presentation that will grab (and fixate) your audience's attention to help you win.
This comprehensive guide will arm you with everything you need to plan, structure, and create a sales presentation that helps your business sell more.
We spoke to our Director of Client Partnerships and sales enablement expert Gary Corrin about what exactly makes a winning sales presentation.
A sales presentation is one of the most important tools available. When well-executed, a sales presentation will bring clarity to the vision, open doors, differentiate the value, and build deep connections with internal and external audiences.
It might be a prospect's first interaction with your company and is a perfect opportunity to create resonance and allow your audience to experience your solution in a way that motivates and persuades a change.
You need an audience to quickly feel that there might be an opportunity to work together and so in many cases, the sales presentation can be the difference between a sales team making the sale or letting the pitch flop.
Start with the narrative. Map the story arc out on paper before you open PowerPoint and start pulling slides together from various old presentations. Think about what you want your audience to feel, remember and say about you after the event. Structure the story in a way that creates jeopardy, anticipation, discomfort and conflict.
You want your audience to feel the dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin when they experience your presentation. These feelings will be memorable, connect them to you, and create an emotional investment in the solutions you are bringing to the table.
We immerse ourselves in their brand, products, and services to create genuine empathy. Not just of their business, but what they believe in. The client will be delivering a presentation that could be career-defining, they want their audience to make changes, to break the inertia. Empathy is key.
Then we’ll help them with structured narrative and emotional storytelling, stripping the presentation back to core messages and evocative visuals. Audiences need complex processes made simple, to have an immediate understanding of what data means, and credibility in the words that are being spoken.
Most high-achieving sales professionals will have several business books on the go, audiobooks, podcasts, and blogs to consume from industry leaders. There’s one that stands out head and shoulders called “Never Split the Difference” by Chris Voss.
He turns the complexity of human behaviour and the psychology of influence into practical steps to level up anybody’s negotiation skills. Add the book to your list, buy it online, or, download a summary of the cheat sheet from his final chapter in our 6-page e-book version.
